Students will become more prepared for a career in construction management by taking this course. The framework for this class has been developed around the Construction Workforce Training Program. Developed by Francois Jacobs at the University of Wyoming, along with other education and construction community members, The Construction Workforce Training Program is designed specifically for Wyoming high school students. Four modules will be taught over the duration of the course - Plan Reading, Materials and Methods, Determining Material Quantities and Costs, and Project Coordination Management.
The Construction Workforce Training Program is meant to empower Wyoming students toward making informed decisions about their career choices after high school, whether it is immediately joining the construction workforce, starting an apprenticeship, enrolling in a college training program, or a bachelor’s degree program. The class is designed to be taken over the course of a year, with two semesters. This would work the best as two individual classes to make time for projects to deepen student understanding. The final outcome of the class would be to create a floor plan with a cost estimate for the construction students at Pathways Innovation Center to build.
This program was developed in partnership with the Wyoming Construction Coalition, The Associated General Contractors of Wyoming, and The UW College of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
